Mayo Farmers Angry - Want Access To Land For Planting

Dozens of angry young men in the rural village of Mayo are calling on cement producer Trinidad Cement Limited to allow them to earn a living. The 40-plus youths, who have being planting short crops in the area for almost a year, say they have suddenly found themselves blocked from going to their crops. On Wednesday, they reached out to the media to highlight their plight. Mr. Figaro said he is an employee at TCL but it has been two years since he was able to work there. He added that because of the pandemic the villagers decided to go into farming. He added that culverts and no trespassing signs were recently placed around their crops. Mr. Figaro also noted that elsewhere in the community persons were also planting on TCL land but they were being allowed to continue. When TTT News reached out to TCL for their take on the situation, we were told that there was no one on the compound who could take our call.
