35 Single Mothers Receive Devices, Grants

Minister of Sport and Community Development, Shamfa Cudjoe, has praised the Digicel Foundation and National Commission for Self Help Limited for the distribution of 35 tablets to single vulnerable mothers in Tobago. Speaking at the official handover on Wednesday at the Digicel Head Office, she said it was fitting that the distribution was done on International Women’s Day, noting that such a move would assist these women to achieve equity. She said although women are celebrated on this day, they still face discrimination and still need to fight to be recognised and respected. The Minister noted that a simple act such as this could leverage women to take advantage of virtual learning programmes while juggling their family’s needs. And CEO of the Digicel Foundation, Penny Gomez, said the company was proud to partner with the National Self Help Commission to assist these 35 women to reach further in society. In addition to the distribution of Samsung Tablet2, the 35 women were also given Grants towards infrastructural projects.
