TTSIDA President Prepared To Go To Court For Export License

President of the Trinidad and Tobago Scrap Iron Dealers Association, Allan Ferguson, is prepared to go to court to get his export license. Speaking at a Conference on Monday, Mr. Ferguson argued that he is being victimised by the Ministry of Trade and Industry and, by extension, the Government. However, the Ministry said there has been no discrimination on their part toward any scrap metal dealer. They said there are issues associated with piles of scrap metal, which was accumulated by a few dealers, without the statutory requirements of the Old Scrap Metal Act and the New Scrap Metal Act. However, Mr. Ferguson said other dealers in the industry have been granted export licenses, but he has been awaiting his for over a year. Still, he re-issued a call to Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley to meet with him to address his export license, and other issues plaguing the scrap iron industry. The Ministry said its Trade Licence Unit has been actively working with the affected dealers to review the voluminous documentation in order to effect a solution which facilitates both the export of scrap metal and the public interest. They claim the matter will be resolved this week.
