The Government continues to pursue investigations into the owners of the Solo Creed, one of the vessels identified in being responsible for the February 2024 Tobago oil spill, and is continuing discussions with the International Oil Pollution Compensation Funds (IOPC).
Speaking in the Lower House on Monday, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley explained the level of difficulty in pinpointing the owners' location since they are acting illegally. This includes falsifying documentation - an action the Prime Minister lamented happens all the time in maritime trade.
Dr. Rowley said these steps are necessary to protect Trinidad and Tobago's interests.
The Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries, on October 24th, revealed that the Solo Creed was arrested in Luanda, Angola and consequently will not be allowed to leave that jurisdiction unless security is lodged to secure the interest of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
