Construction Of Culvert Crossings In Arouca

Since Friday there has been what the Ministry of Works and Transport calls a traffic disruption in Arouca along the Eastern Main Road from Thomas Street to Railway Road. While a nuisance for some, the Minister of Works and Transport, Rohan Sinanan, assures it is necessary as the disruption is to facilitate changing of the culvert crossings. He notes the system being used to replace the culverts, while costly, is minimising the inconvenience to commuters. Minister Sinanan said the aim is to have the works completed in time for rush hour on Thursday morning. He also reminded that the work is part of the Ministry’s wider programme to deal with flooding that also includes the National Desilting Programme. The Minister visited the site with officials of his Ministry on Monday.
