CXC Reveals Strategy For CXC And CAPE 2020

The Caribbean Examination Council has announced its strategy for CSEC and CAPE 2020 May/June examinations, taking into account the COVID-19 outbreak across the region. The Council said it has been working with representatives from Education Ministries across the region and has arrived at a regional consensus regarding the sitting of the exams. In a statement, the Council announced that at least one Multiple Choice Paper will be administered. This, along with the marks from School Based Assessments (SBAs) and Paper 3s for private candidates complete the final grades for students. Several subjects such as Spanish, French and Portuguese, Human and Social Biology and Visual Arts will require the completion of additional components. The Council said the strategy will employ the use of e-Testing modality (online and offline) to reduce the examinations administration processing time resulting in the shortest turn-around time for marking and the release of examination results. They say this will provide an opportunity for the timely presentation of grades to facilitate matriculation to higher education or to access employment, while minimizing disruption to the 2020/2021 Academic Year. The Council has proposed that their 2020 exams be scheduled for July 2020, but says they will continue to be guided by national protocols across the region.
