Police Commissioner Issues Another Warning On Social Distancing

The Commissioner of Police is reminding banks and supermarkets to adhere to social distancing guidelines as the country fights COVID-19. In a release, the Commissioner also reminded of the authority given to the Police Service with regard to persons, businesses or banks not adhering to the guidelines laid down in the amendments to the Public Health Ordinance. Commissioner Griffith said on Tuesday that he received video footage of a large crowd of about 100 persons gathered outside First Citizens' bank in Marabella, risking their lives so they could be first in the line when the bank opened. He said at that time, there were no security officers or banking officials outside the bank to ensure that the guidelines were met. He is holding those in authority responsible for ensuring that persons adhere to the guidelines. Commissioner Griffith said if they do not assist with ensuring that these guidelines are met, then he would have no choice but to close these buildings until they comply.
