Assemblyman for Buccoo/Mt. Pleasant, Ancil Dennis, has been elected as the new Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly. The Legislature of the Tobago House of Assembly convened on Wednesday afternoon for the business of the election of a Chief Secretary. A vacancy for the post was created last week with the resignation of Kelvin Charles. Mr. Dennis was nominated by Assemblyman for Providence/Mason Hall/Moriah, Sheldon Cunningham. He was the lone nominee. Minority Leader Watson Duke did not submit a nomination. He asked for clarity on which chapter or verse in the Standing Orders of the THA Act speaks to the election of a Chief Secretary after a resignation from the post. The Minority bench left the Chamber before Mr. Dennis took the oath. Mr. Duke had threatened legal action to stop the sitting of the Assembly and/or remove any Chief Secretary that is appointed.
