No Major Rush For Doubles, Fast Food

Despite the hype on social media about people camping outside food outlets to rush for their favourite foods, various areas across Trinidad suggested a far cry from that. Restrictions for food establishments and street foods have been lifted after being closed for six weeks, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. At KFC outlets on Independence Square and Maraval, few customers were seen entering and exiting. The ease-up was announced by the Prime Minister on Saturday in a televised address to the nation saying the country would be reopened in several phases. With no in-house dining allowed, restaurants and other food establishments and street vendors can only offer curb-side pick-ups, take-out deliveries, and drive-thru service. National Security Minister Stuart Young confirmed that on-site dining is strictly prohibited and now classified as against the law. Additionally, Police Commissioner Gary Griffith cautioned that the police will be out and will shut down operations if there are crowds. Meanwhile, many doubles vendors have mentioned that they will be implementing a "call-in order" system for their businesses, and pickups must still adhere to social distancing protocols when they line up. From what has been observed, most customers seem to be pulling up in their cars, placing their orders, collecting, and then leaving.
