SPORT: Local Horse Trainer Rolf Bartolo Passes

Local sport took another hit with the passing of horse owner/trainer Rolf Bartolo on Sunday at age 74. Bartolo, a former football goalkeeper and coach at Maple Sports Club for many years, passed away at his home in Diego Martin around 6:20am. He is survived by his brother and sister. Bartolo was also a long standing horse owner and eventually received his trainer's license about five years ago, and enjoyed his best day on Independence Day last year. He teamed with ace jockey Nela Mohammed and scored three winners on the day, starting with three year old Simon Peter in Race 4, followed by a win with Jesse's Girl at 2-1 odds. Then, as if saving the best for last, the same pair scored the big one when Root Of Jesse won the day's feature Independence Cup Grade One event at 7-2 odds.
