PM Rowley: Fuad Abu Bakr Is Not A PNM Member

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley has publicly spoken about the controversy surrounding Political Leader of the New National Vision (NNV), Fuad Abu Bakr, and his attempt to become a Candidate for the People's National Movement for the 2020 General Election. During a live interview on Rise and Shine on Tobago Channel 5 on Tuesday, the Prime Minister said Fuad Abu Bakr was creating a bizarre situation by alleging that he met with the Prime Minister and had an arrangement to become a Candidate for the PNM. The Prime Minister admitted that as the Member of Parliament for Diego Martin West, he met with Imam Yasin Abu Bakr, the father of Fuad Abu Bakr, on several occasions. Dr. Rowley said on one of those occasions, the elder Mr. Abu Bakr met with him to thank the Government for assisting the Jamaat-al-Muslimeen with their private school. Fuad Abu Bakr appeared at the PNM's screening last Thursday claiming he had a meeting with the party's executive and was hoping to be screened for the Port of Spain South Constituency.
