Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Rowley, has called on the nation to plant seeds of hope, for a better tomorrow for ourselves and the nation's children.
In his message, on the occasion of Corpus Christi, Prime Minister Rowley said the COVID-19 experience is pointing to a false reality, dominated by anger, fear, mistrust, suspicion, and violence. But, on the other hand, the Prime Minister said, it may contain a solution that tells us, everyone is interconnected to each other.
He said it is time to forget differences of race, colour, class, gender and geographical origin, and instead connect with our hearts, acknowledging only our common humanity. He called on the nation to let the symbolism of a seed speak to the struggles and growth which the nation must experience to overcome, not just Covid-19, but all of the nation's other challenges. Dr. Rowley said it's time to pause and plant new seeds.
Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition, Kamla Persad-Bissessar call for the country to undertake deep introspection and understand that the only way to defeat the ongoing hardship, as a people, is to live for each other, act in goodness for each other, as well as have faith in each other.
She extends warm greetings to the Christian Community on the celebration of the Feast of Corpus Christi. She notes that this year Corpus Christi comes at a time when many in our nation, are burdened by the significant economic and social hardships facing our nation.
She says, however, this holy day allows us all to reflect on the presence of God in our lives, and how we can, not only preserve through this period but how we can be motivated by God's presence, to become tools for change in the lives of others, especially the less fortunate and heavily impacted.
