Today is World Day Against Child Labour.
Statistics in 2001 show that Trinidad and Tobago reported a 4.1% level in children working. In 2008, this was reduced to 0.7%.
The Ministry of Labour's Taramatie Rampersad told TTT News that they are working to reduce the levels to zero.
The problem is child labour is not so easily detected as the sector within which it is most predominant lies in rural areas.
Ms. Rampersad says the Inter-Sectoral Committee set up to deal with the problem is already setting the path to gather data on the statistics to set policy and bring the practice to an end.
