Response To COVID-19 - Friday June 12th 2020

Today is the World Day Against Child Labour. This year’s observance focuses on the impact of crisis on child labour and comes at the time when the COVID-19 pandemic could push millions of vulnerable children into child labour. Already, an estimated 152 million children are in child labour, with 72 million involved in hazardous work. Today on the Response to COVID-19 programme, we discuss the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on child labour with: - Ms. Kevar Cummings William, Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Labour and Small Enterprise Development and Chair of the National Steering Committee for the Prevention and Elimination of Child Labour, - Ms. Resel Melville, National Project Coordinator of the Regional Initiative on Child Labour, International Labour Organization, and - Mr. Farouk Mohammed, Labour Inspector II at the Ministry of Labour and Small Enterprise Development.
