Maloney No Longer A Crime Haven

Maloney Gardens in East Trinidad is not a den of criminals. A bold statement from the Member of Parliament for Arouca/ Maloney, Camille Robinson-Regis, who turned the sod on Tuesday to begin construction of the Maloney Community Swimming Pool. She noted that Maloney Gardens has not been spared the ravages of gang warfare, inter-building rivalry, and competition for turf. However, she said the stigma of the area has slowly but surely been disappearing with the introduction of community activities and the Maloney Gardens Police Youth Club. According to the MP for Arouca/Maloney, the community swimming pool had been conceptualised since 1995 but never materialised because of politics. She said even now there is a chorus of dissenters who hold the view that there should not be community swimming pools. She said community swimming pools have the ability to teach children life skills and peaceful rivalry without resorting to violence.
