We'll have to wait a little longer to hear what will become of the Columbus statue in Port of Spain.
Several groups and individuals have been lobbying for the removal of the statue, which was donated back in 1881, citing the many atrocities committed by Christopher Columbus.
Port of Spain Mayor Joel Martinez addressed the issue during the Corporation's Statutory Meeting on Wednesday.
The Mayor said the matter has become a national issue.
Last week, a petition with over 8,000 signatures calling for the removal of the statue was delivered to the Port of Spain Mayor.
The Port of Spain City Corporation also conducted an online survey on the issue.
