Buccoo Reef Marine Park Opens

The Buccoo Reef Marine Park has been reopened, reviving tours to the world-famous reef and the Nylon Pool. The Buccoo Reef and Nylon Pool were closed to visitors during the Coronavirus lockdown, to the detriment of reef boat operators who lost thousands of dollars in revenue. During the lockdown, the THA worked with the reef operators at Store Bay to establish a policy to improve safety and security at the beach. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the parties at the opening. The reef operators are pleased with what they called an "historic" arrangement. Chief Secretary Ancil Dennis also announced that the THA is to purchase a floating jetty for Store Bay and upgrade the infrastructure at Pigeon Point. He said such upgrades will ensure Tobago can compete with the best destinations in the Caribbean.
