COVID-19 And Pregnancy

Global reports are suggesting an upsurge in adverse conditions related to COVID-19 for mothers and newborns. This, according to Director of Women's Health at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Adesh Sirjusingh, who said this is what the country has been trying to avoid, and will continue efforts to do so. Speaking at Wednesday's Ministry of Health Virtual Media Conference, Dr. Sirjusingh said there are several issues challenging the health care system worldwide, which results in difficulties in pregnant women having access to health care. He referred to a case involving a pregnant Jamaican woman who suffered severe consequences. Pregnant women who are classified as high risk, or exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms are advised to contact the Ministry's hotline at 800-WELL.
