PM Rowley Invites Election Observers From CARICOM And Commonwealth

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley has invited foreign observers to monitor the August 10th General Election. The Prime Minister sent letters to CARICOM Secretary-General Irwin La Rocque, and Commonwealth Secretary-General, Patricia Scotland QC, on Thursday. The letter formally invites both parties to send Election Observation Missions under its auspices to observe Trinidad and Tobago's processes and operations in the upcoming Parliamentary elections. On Wednesday, Political Leader of the United National Congress, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, said she sent a letter to the Prime Minister urging him to invite international observer teams. She said this would ensure the election is conducted in a free, fair, and just manner that will reflect the true mandate of the people.
