Top Cop Promises Strong Police Presence For August 10th General Election

Police Commissioner Gary Griffith has assured Chief Elections Officer Fern Narcis-Scope of a strong police presence across the country for the August 10th General Election. Mrs. Narcis-Scope and the Deputy Chief Elections Officer, Leana Sahadeo, met with the Commissioner of Police at the Police Administration Building in Port of Spain on Tuesday. According to a release issued by the TTPS, Commissioner Griffith said the police presence is aimed at deterring incidents of intimidation, voter suppression, bribery and illegal canvassing on Election Day. He added police officers will provide security to EBC offices and sites, and escort election paraphernalia to be used by election officials on Election Day. Commissioner Griffith said Emergency Response Patrol vehicles will be equipped with dashboard cameras and will be deployed to large Polling Stations and provide the TTPS Command Centre with real-time video footage of the activities at these locations.
