IRO Calls For Unity

The Inter-Religious Organisation is calling on all political parties to come together, and all citizens to unite for one day of prayer. The IRO says in the midst of this unprecedented year, it is asking for the nation to pause the pursuit of campaigning to celebrate and thank God for the gift of democracy. The religious body is asking the Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader to facilitate the organisation in this cause. The IRO's call comes as the 30th anniversary of the July 27th 1990 Attempted Coup approaches on Monday. It says it must be remembered the high price the country paid to exercise the right to vote and the many lives that were lost so that this could be a democratic nation. The IRO says this is a significant anniversary, even as we are in the midst of preparations for a General Election.
