Call To Prayer

Religious leaders from several of the major denominations have set aside Sunday August 2nd as the date for a "Call to Prayer." The group had asked the Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader to facilitate the organisation in this cause. In a release, the religious leaders said the Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader have both endorsed the call. The group had called on all political parties to set aside their campaigning and to come together, and all citizens to unite for one day of prayer to thank God for the gift of democracy. The call came as the 30th anniversary of the July 27th 1990 Attempted Coup approaches on Monday. The group said it must be remembered the high price the country paid to exercise the right to vote and the many lives that were lost, so that this could be a democratic nation. It said this is a significant anniversary, even in the midst of preparations for a general election. Details concerning the activities on the day are still to be announced.
