The Trinidad and Tobago Debates Commission will not be hosting an electoral debate for the 2020 General Election. The Commission says it has been deliberating on this position since 2019, and acknowledges its success in hosting Local Government and Tobago House of Assembly election debates over the past 10 years. However, despite its best efforts, the Commission has not been able to coordinate a Leaders' Debate in the last two General Elections. Despite this, the Commission is confident that Leaders' Debates will eventually become an integral part of our election landscape. It said due to the COVID-19 pandemic there was not enough time to mobilize for the upcoming election.
