POS Ready For Rainfall

Mayor of Port of Spain, Joel Martinez, says the city is prepared for heavy rainfall whenever it comes. Speaking at today's Statutory Meeting, Mayor Martinez said the Corporation continues to maintain the open drains and underground infrastructure. But he said the only issue is whether the capacity of the underground infrastructure can accommodate the amount of rainfall. As such, the Mayor urged citizens not to throw plastics and garbage into the waterways. He said on a walk through in the Sea Lots area with members of the Corporation recently, they saw a tremendous amount of plastic floating in the river and this, he said, cannot be healthy. Mayor Martinez said the Corporation is hoping to partner with the Ministry of Works to ensure the Sea Lots is cleaned regularly.
