2020 celebrations for Steelpan Month will be quiet this time around, as this country continues to work towards preventing the spread of COVID-19. On Monday, the Steelpan Authority instead hosted an international flag raising ceremony at the Brian Lara Promenade in Port of Spain, giving recognition to the national instrument and pioneers in the industry. Member of the Steelpan Authority, Sean Nero, explained to TTT News that this year's celebration will honour the legacy of those in the steelpan fraternity and also pay special tribute to the younger generation involved. Recognised for his contribution to the steelpan on Monday was Barry Mannettte, arranger and son of the late Vernon "Birdie" Mannette. He also took part in the flag raising ceremony.
