PCA Recommends TTPS Take Disciplinary Action Against ACP Irwin Hackshaw

The Police Complaints Authority is pursuing a case against Assistant Commissioner of Police Irwin Hackshaw. The Authority issued a press statement, saying he is suspected of having accepted paid employment or undertaking private work without approval, which is in Breach of Regulation 133 (b). The independent investigation of the Police Complaints Authority began on March 9th this year with inquiries being made into unusual financial transactions involving ACP Hackshaw. The PCA says it completed its investigation into serious police misconduct on August 6th. It referred the evidence gathered to Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith with a recommendation for disciplinary proceedings to be instituted. The PCA says the start of proceedings is urgent as Mr. Hackshaw will retire on November 9th 2020 after which the TTPS will not have the authority to conduct disciplinary hearings. PCA Director David West says in light of strengthening community trust and confidence in law enforcement, the Authority is calling for immediate action by the TTPS in this matter.
