Time To Save Local Football

It's time to act and try to save local football from being thrown backwards as a result of FIFA sanctions and suspension. This was the sordid and contrite assessment from Sports Minister Shamfa Cudjoe who hosted a virtual meeting with football stakeholders to voice her Government's concerns about the grave situation in which the sport finds itself owing to the ongoing court battle between the United TTFA officials and FIFA, the sport's world governing body. Head of the Sports Company of TT, Douglas Camacho, pointed to the reality should FIFA follow through with its threat to impose sanction which he says could see national teams and clubs debarred from participating in international competitions at all levels, which will severely retard the development of the sport at all levels. The Minister therefore called on the clubs and member associations to step up their pressure on the foursome in order to persuade them to act in the best interest of the youths of the country and to prevent the sport from sliding further backwards, buried in indebtedness.
