EMA Makes Appeal To Protect Environmentally Sensitive Species (ESS)

Reports of an alleged increase in the poaching of sea-turtles as well as a report of the shooting and killing of an ocelot in North East Trinidad have led the Environmental Management Authority (EMA) to call on interest groups and the national community to report any incidents of poaching of Environmentally Sensitive Species (ESS). These reports can be made to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, the Game Wardens of the Forestry Division, and the Environmental Police Unit of the EMA. The EMA has an Environmental Police Unit comprising Special Reserve Police officers appointed by the Commissioner of Police and assigned to the EMA to assist with prosecution of offences under the Environmental Management Act, Chapter 35:05. They say the public can be assured that where detailed reports are made, these reports will be thoroughly investigated and once sufficient evidence is available, legal action will be taken.
