Two Arrested For Kidnapping Baby

Two people have been arrested in connection with the abduction of eight month old Sofia Rivas, who was safely rescued by police officers in Curepe on Tuesday night. According to police reports, at around 10:50pm on Tuesday, a joint team of police officers from the Central Division and the Anti-Kidnapping Unit went to Mc Inroy Street in Curepe, where they safely rescued the baby girl. A 19 year old woman of California, Central Trinidad, and another suspect were arrested in connection with the incident. The child's mother, Venezuelan National Valentina Hernandez, reported to police on Tuesday that at around 9am, she was at her Longdenville, Chaguanas home with baby Sophia when the child was taken by a woman without her permission. The mother told police she later received a telephone call from the suspect demanding TT$20,000 in cash for the safe release of her daughter. Police say the ransom was not paid.
