Law Association Supports Probe Into Return Of Sou Sou Money

The Law Association says the Commissioner of Police is right to launch an investigation into the return of cash seized in a police raid on the Drugs Sou Sou (DSS) premises. The Association also supports an investigation into the officer caught on tape allegedly stuffing cash into his apparel. Last week Tuesday, police raided a house in Phase One, La Horquetta, where they seized over $20 million and arrested nine people in what was believed to be a pyramid scheme. The money was later returned, and CCTV footage also showed one of the officers in the raid stuffing cash into his clothing. Commissioner Gary Griffith has launched an investigation into both the return of the cash and the removal of evidence by the officer who, he said, was a soldier and not a police officer. The Law Association suggests the investigation should also include whether there was a legal requirement to obtain a warrant to search the premises. LATT says too the Commissioner should not belabor the investigation into the removal of evidence as it may appear he is shirking responsibility for the conduct of an individual carrying out a search as part of a unit under his command. The Association also calls on the Commissioner to pay equal attention to reports of members of the squad physically abusing occupants of the premises being searched.
