The T&T Scrap Iron Dealers Association continues its fight to be allowed to dispose of the unused assets of the now-defunct Petrotrin. Heritage Petroleum Company Limited, which oversees Petrotrin's assets, wants to dispose of the scrap iron by public bidding but the Scrap Iron Association wants a "sole-select" approach. The President of the Association, Alan Ferguson, said if they have their way, 3,000 jobs would be created and the local scrap metal industry would become globally competitive. The scrap iron dealers are not just asking for Government intervention, they also want to enter a partnership with the administration.
