ICT Lab Launched In San Fernando

The Social Development Ministry recently launched its very first Information Communication Technology (ICT) Lab which is attached to the Adult Education Programme in San Fernando. The Lab is an initiative in collaboration with the Digicel Foundation, which donated 10 desktop computers to be made available to the 55 persons registered for ICT Studies in the 2020 Edition of the Adult Education Programme. Speaking at the launch, Social Development Minister Donna Cox says the initiative forms part of the Government's strategy to revitalize the national economy and increase resilience and sustainability among vulnerable populations. The Minister adds that the launch of the lab also symbolizes the Government's aim at being a data-centric society. Speaking on behalf of the Digicel Foundation, Senior Government Relations and Affairs Executive Alicia Hospedales indicated that the Foundation was happy to partner with the Ministry, particularly during this period when having access to online learning is important. The cost of the 10 computers is estimated at US$5,000.
