PM Rowley Proposes Cap On Tax Exemptions

Since the presentation of the 2021 Budget, there has been a lot of conversation surrounding tax exemptions for vehicles for Members of Parliament. Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley has said he will take a suggestion to Cabinet to put a cap on tax exemptions. The Prime Minister, during his contribution to the Budget debate, expressed concern that the process for tax exemptions on vehicles for Members of Parliament was being abused. However, he said he is not going to make a unilateral decision. Responding to the contributions by various speakers on the Opposition bench, the Prime Minister said it seems their arguments were based on several main issues that they resolve to prevent, namely the establishment of the Revenue Authority, the establishment of a Gaming Commission, and the Property Tax. Dr. Rowley also waded into the Opposition for their open support for Venezuela's self-proclaimed President Juan Guaido. The Budget Debate concluded on Wednesday with the Lower House, going into the Standing Finance Committee where they examine the areas of expenditure.
