DSS Probe: 4 Officers Suspended, 11 Transferred

Police Commissioner Gary Griffith has directed that four police officers be suspended, and another 11 be transferred. The reaction comes as investigations continue into the return of millions of dollars in cash, following the recent Drugs Sou Sou (DSS) raid in La Horquetta. Mr. Griffith said the decision to suspend four policemen, including two senior officers, was based on preliminary investigations. Mr Griffith has also directed that four other officers be transferred out of the Northern Division. A further seven officers, all SRPs, are to be transferred to the Northern Division Area West. The Commissioner's move comes after police seized $22 million in cash from a house on September 22nd. The cash was transferred to the La Horquetta Police Station to be counted, but the following day the money was handed back to a man who was since described as the founder of the DSS. Following this, concern was raised by Police Commissioner Gary Griffith who mandated the Professional Standards Bureau (PSB) to determine why the cash was returned. In a media release on Thursday, Mr. Griffith said his move to remove certain persons from the investigation came after advice from the PSB to allow the entire probe to be conducted in a transparent manner. The investigations are being spearheaded by a team under the supervision of Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mc Donald Jacob.
