HDC Warns Of Housing Scams

Over the past month, several people have been victims of housing scams, leading to tens of thousands of dollars being lost. The disclosure from the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), warning of a resurgence in reported incidents of housing scams. HDC Managing Director, Brent Lyons, points out that in 2018, the Corporation launched a successful multi-media scammers alert campaign, following an increase in scams. But the HDC says there was recently several individuals who were either victims, or almost became victims of fraudulent activities. The HDC reminds citizens that transactions related to the allocation of HDC units are conducted by identified officials within the relevant departments at the HDC office, and payments are made at the Cashier's unit in full view of the cameras. It adds that it will never use an 'intermediary' to collect funds on its behalf, nor will it sanction payments or transfers to personal accounts. Anyone who believes that they might have been a victim of a housing scam is urged to contact the TTPS Fraud Squad Division immediately.
