From next week, new polymer notes for the 5, 10, and 20 dollar bills will be circulated into the economy. This was revealed by Central Bank Governor Dr Alvin Hilaire who said the main reasons for this move is due to additional security features, as well as its cost-effectiveness. He said the notes cost 50% more than the regular cotton notes, but it is more durable and has a longer shelf life. And although the notes will be distributed to local banks by November, Central Bank's Head of Operations Sharon Villafana explained that the current cotton notes will remain legal tender until the end of 2021, where a decision will be made to demonetise the notes. Meanwhile, Dr Hilaire believes the public will respond well to the introduction of the new notes.
