Police Commissioner Files Defamation Lawsuit Against Facebook User

Police Commissioner Gary Griffith is making moves to take legal action against a Facebook user for alleged defamatory statements made against him in the public domain. According to a letter drafted by Attorney Joel Roper, attached to the Atlantic Law Chambers, they have been hired to file a matter in the High Court of Justice for defamation and malicious falsehood. The letter is addressed to the Facebook user, and states "we have been instructed that you have made, and or published defamatory statements about our client, published on October 29th, 2020." The legal correspondence added, " Your statements are a direct personal attack on the Police Commissioner's character".... and the allegations are "baseless, untrue and unfounded." The Commissioner's instructions are that he is willing to settle the matter amicably, which requires the Facebook user to immediately cease and desist from spreading or repeating the damaging and defamatory statements, an unqualified apology in terms to be agreed upon by both parties to be published in an equivalent manner to said comment, and costs for the period as the court may deem just. Should the Facebook user fail to comply, he has been warned that further legal action will be taken against him.
