Arima Gets New Community Centre

After a 10-year wait, the Borough of Arima has a new Community Centre. The Community Centre was officially opened on Thursday by the Member of Parliament for Arima, Pennelope Beckles, and the Minister of Sport and Community Development, Shamfa Cudjoe. MP Beckles recalled that during her last incarnation as Member of Parliament, there were many heated debates over the construction of a new Community Centre in Arima. She said the commissioning of the new Community Centre brings her special joy, as there were also concerns that a new facility would not be built. Minister of Sports and Community Development, Shamfa Cudjoe, said Community Centres serve as engine rooms where residents prepare for citizenship through group activities. She challenged the residents of Arima to take make good use of the Community Centre, and to conserve the energy and water resources.
