Vasant Bharath Will Challenge Kamla Persad-Bissessar For The Post As UNC Political Leader

It's official, Vasant Bharath will challenge Kamla Persad-Bissessar for the post of Political Leader of the United National Congress. The UNC held nominations on Sunday ahead of the December 6th internal election, where the leadership and national executive posts will be contested. The UNC's Constitution states that elected Members of Parliament are not eligible to seek executive posts. As a result, Dave Tancoo, Anita Haynes, Arnold Ram, Rai Ragbir and Ravi Ratiram all stepped down from their respective positions. The situation is a source of concern for Mr. Bharath, he's questioning the legitimacy and transparency of the election process. UNC activist Devant Maharaj was also at the party's headquarters in Couva. However he did not submit his nomination papers, he says he will not take part in a fraudulent process. Political Leader Kamla Persad Bissessar did not appear in person to submit her nomination papers, her agent filed on her behalf.
