MOH Details NCD Plan

Non-Communicable Diseases or NCDs are one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in Trinidad and Tobago. Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh, made the statement during his address at the Opening of the National Health Research Conference. He said cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of mortality, accounting for more than 50% of deaths annually. He explained the goal of the Ministry of Health's NCD plan is to reduce the burden of preventable mortality before age 70 by 25% by 2025. The Health Minister said his Ministry is also targeting mental health as an NCD. Minister Deyalsingh also revealed that Trinidad and Tobago has attained its Sustainable Development Goals 2030 regarding maternal and infant mortality, 12 years ahead of schedule. He appealed to pregnant women to seek prenatal care as early as possible.
