Climate Action Imperative

Climate action is imperative for the Caribbean. This, from Vice Chancellor of the University of the West Indies, Sir Hilary Beckles. Speaking at the Virtual Launch of the State of the Caribbean Climate Report on Monday, Sir Hilary called on development partners to increase their investment in higher education and research as the two are crucial in treating with climate change. The report which was launched by the University of the West Indies in partnership with the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the European Union, provides critical analysis and discussion on Caribbean climate. Sir Hilary said the report would provide solutions to present development concerns. The summary of the report says its main purpose is to strengthen the strategic planning and decision making processes required to accelerate resilience-building efforts in the Caribbean. President of the Caribbean Development Bank, Dr. Warren Smith, said the catastrophic impact of hurricanes in the region underscores the importance of climate change on the CDB's agenda.
