Health Minister Denies Statements On 'Bigshot Wedding'

Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh, is demanding an immediate retraction in a daily newspaper for what he says are incorrect statements attributed to him. Minister Deyalsingh was referring to article in the Trinidad and Tobago Newsday captioned "Bigshot Wedding." The Ministry of Health noted the editorial names and attributed a series of statements to the Minister of Health. Minister Deyalsingh has denied making any such statements. The Minister supported his position by quoting from a Wednesday November 25th, 2020 article in the Trinidad Express (page 3) written by Ria Taitt. Ms. Taitt was one of several reporters that interviewed the Minister at the sod turning ceremony for the new Ministry of Health Head Office in Port of Spain. The article states: "If Government Ministers were present at the Valsayn wedding last weekend, Deyalsingh said he read that in the newspapers, but he did not know if any Ministers were present." Making reference to a conversation he had with the host of the wedding, Minister Deyalsingh further clarified that he advised the person not to hold a large wedding. Minister Deyalsingh added that the person came to him for advice and he advised him not to host the wedding.
