GBVU Disappointed Over Violent Acts Against Women

Unfortunate. This is how Manager of the Police Service's Gender Based Violence Unit, Shireen Pollard, describes the news that another missing woman was found dead on Friday. On Thursday, the body Krystal Primus-Espinoza was retrieved after it washed ashore in Balandra, while the body of Ashanti Riley was found in Santa Cruz on Friday. Ms. Pollard believes these two recent incidents illustrate this country's "blatant disregard" for women, and how they are treated locally. She says this translates into gender based and domestic violence against them. Ms. Pollard says all individuals need to change their response to these types of gender based and domestic violence, and report such incidents to the authorities. She is disappointed especially after these incidents occurred just one week after the world observed the 'International Day, for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.' She believes Trinidad and Tobago needs to address these critical issues before more women fall victim to violence.
