Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley has come out in defence of amendments to the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Property (Amendment) Bill, 2020. The Bill amends the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Property Act 2015, which was only partially proclaimed. During debate on the Bill in the Lower House on Friday, the Prime Minister used a timely example of why the Procurement Regulator should not oversee Government to Government contracts. The Prime Minister again dismissed allegations of corruption levelled against his Minister of National Security and Attorney General brought by the Opposition Leader. He posed questions to the Opposition Leader about a deal she made as Prime Minister back in 2015 with Dutch Firm Damen shipyards for the supply of 12 vessels at a cost of 177 million Euros. The Prime Minister alleged that in 2016, a middleman collected millions of dollars in commission.
