TT Scientists Begin To Monitor La Soufrière

Three scientists from the UWI Seismic Research Centre in St. Augustine have conducted a flyover of the La Soufriere Volcano in St Vincent, before landing at the country's airport. The team comprising Geologist, Professor Richard Robertson, Instrumentation Engineer, Lloyd Lynch, and Engineering Technician, Ian Juman, left Trinidad via a Regional Security System aircraft and arrived on the island on Thursday morning. They've been placed in a modified quarantine, allowing them to strengthen the seismic and GPS network used to monitor the volcano while having limited contact with anyone outside the team. They will be subject to a second COVID-19 test after seven days. Meanwhile, St Vincent's National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO), said there were no significant changes at the volcano overnight, but it continues to have effusive eruptions and magma continues to reach the surface at high temperatures.
