Maintaining closed borders is continuing to prevent Trinidad and Tobago from getting the new strain of COVID-19. During the Ministry of Health's Virtual Media Conference on Wednesday, Minister Terrence Deyalsingh said the new strain had not been detected as of Monday. He said the closure of the borders has saved the country. He said the Ministry, CARPHA and UWI have joined forces to do genomic sequencing of selected samples from T&T to see whether the variant is here. The Minister said samples are being taken from persons who were recently repatriated, and from the migrant population who meet the clinical criteria.
