National Security Minister Meets US Embassy Officials

Minister of National Security, Stuart Young, has followed up on his intention to seek assistance from the United States Department of Justice as it relates to the award of a contract to Vertical Aviation by the National Operations Centre. On Tuesday, Minister Young met with officials from the United States Embassy in Trinidad and Tobago. The Minister met with Deputy Chief of Mission of the US Embassy, Mr. Shante Moore, and his team to discuss a request made to the US Department of Justice for an investigation into circumstances surrounding the procurement and the lease of a Sikorsky S76D Helicopter. Last week, Minister Young said the contract for the lease of the helicopter awarded in 2014 by the People's Partnership Government contained massive red flags, among them was a waiver of sovereign immunity. The parties also discussed other security and law enforcement matters between Trinidad and Tobago and the USA.
