Two Killed In Shootout With Off Duty Police Officer

Two men were killed in a shootout with an off-duty police officer on Wednesday evening. A third suspect is in police custody. The incident took place at about 7pm on Lady Chancellor Hill in Port of Spain. Twenty five year old Franklyn De Freitas, of Richplain Road, Diego Martin, died at hospital, while the body of Shakeel Phillip was found lying in some bushes on Thursday morning by Task Force officers conducting investigations. The third man was held at the Port of Spain General Hospital while seeking treatment for gunshot wounds. He's currently warded under police guard. According to reports, the officer was walking along Lady Chancellor Hill, when he walked past a parked car with three occupants. One of the men got out of the vehicle with a gun and fired at the officer. The officer drew his licensed firearm and returned fire. The two men who were in the car fled the area on foot.
