JTUM Embarks On Nationwide Motorcade

The Joint Trade Union Movement (JTUM) embarked on a nationwide motorcade on Saturday to protest what it describes as unfairness to the working class. The motorcade began in front of the Oilfields Workers’ Trade Union Headquarters on Circular Road, San Fernando, and ended at the Queen's Park Savannah in Port of Spain. President General of the OWTU Ancel Roget who is also the President of JTUM said the industrial relations climate in Trinidad and Tobago has deteriorated. He accused employers of using the covid19 pandemic to take advantage of the working class. President of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions (FITUN), Joseph Remy, said the trade union movement has stood strong in the face of efforts to remove the movement from key decisions in the national economy. He said the National Tripartite Advisory Council is enshrined under the International Labour Organization, not a government agency, and the unions demand their right to be present or to disengage if their efforts are futile.
