Unions Back OWTU

The country's trade union fraternity has rallied behind the Oilfields Workers' Trade Union in its quest to purchase the Pointe-a-Pierre Refinery. In a Media Conference on Friday, the Joint Trade Union Movement and the Federation of Independent Trade Unions, and NGOs membership came together to reiterate the OWTU's position: that having submitted the best bid, negotiations should be concluded. Assistant General Secretary of JTUM, Trevor Johnson, said Government's proposal to go back to the open market and reopen the bidding process, should be abandoned. Representatives from the Trinidad and Tobago Postal Workers' Union, the Contractors & General Workers' Trade Union, and the All Trinidad Workers' Trade Union, also spoke on behalf of their colleagues.
